On being entertained by boring things

My darling hunksband doesn't understand how I can watch YouTube vlogs. He finds them insufferably boring and doesn't see how I could possibly be entertained by someone going about their daily life. I, however, cannot get enough of someone's day to day routine. I remember, the one time I went to Glastonbury in 2011, my friends and I were sat around the tent one afternoon during pre-drinks and one by one we detailed our morning routines. I loved it. I find mundane details about people's lives fascinating and when YouTubers say 'sorry the week's been so boring' I am lapping it up. I don't particularly care about exciting trips or action packed days out. Give me your weekly shop, tell me about your cat's flea treatments. I'll be on the edge of my seat.

I've always been like this I think. My favourite books are about real life, from Judy Blume and Jacqueline Wilson when I was but a wee nipper, to Sarah Winman and Rachel Joyce now. I don't want for superhero films and big CGI special effects. I guess it's a mix of being super nosy and getting to see simple, everyday things you would not normally see in someone else's life. I like finding out if people do the same things as me. 'I agree that Whole Earth peanut butter is the best peanut butter!' 'I also hate it when someone talks to me on the bus stop!'. It's like making a connection even if you don't know that person. And isn't that what life is about? Connections. Only joking, that makes me cringe to my core. But also it's a bit true. Sorry about it.

I also think there's a skill to still making it interesting. Take Hannah Gale for example. If you don't know her, she is a blogger who has a small child and instagrams a lot of her day to day life, talking about her fave Nakd bar flavours, what her child is watching on TV and how long it's been since she noticed her top had a baby sick stain on. It's 'boring', sure. But it's mega relatable. It's funny. It's cute. And I can't get enough.

So here's to being boring bitches.
